The in vitro anticancer activity of the aqueous extract of Hibiscus rosasinensis stem bark against A431 human skin carcinoma and human skin fibroblast cell lines were investigated. The aqueous extract showed strong anticancer activity against the human skin cancer cell line, A431, with a 50% growth inhibitory dose (IC50) of 68.54 microg/mL. A positive control drug, curcumin, exhibited lower anticancer activity with an IC50 value of 85.02 microg/mL. The aqueous extract of H. rosasinensis stem bark did not show any anticancer activity against the human skin fibroblast cell line, Hs27, even at a concentration of 600 microg/mL.This invention relates to apparatus for applying a skin treatment liquid onto a surface of skin to apply the liquid to the skin, and more particularly, to such an apparatus which is portable.
The use of a skin treatment liquid is well known to soften, exfoliate and cleanse the skin. A hand-held applicator for applying a liquid to the skin is disclosed in, for example, U.S. Pat. No. 4,925,344 to LaChance et al. The hand-held applicator includes a nozzle having an aperture through which the liquid is applied to the skin. To apply the liquid, the user's thumb is placed over the aperture of the nozzle so that the liquid is directed to the skin by the thumb. The applicator can be hand-held and, thus, is more convenient to the user than a larger, stationary applicator having a pump or similar structure for discharging the liquid. However, because of its hand-held configuration, the applicator requires greater care to apply the liquid to the skin than if it were applied using a stationary applicator. Moreover, although the hand-held applicator is particularly convenient for personal application, it is not convenient for commercial application. In this regard, it is not convenient to prepare the hand-held applicator for commercial application and to supply it to a commercial establishment for personal application by a customer. It is also difficult to ensure that the user is using the applicator properly.
